Why it exists

What was going wrong

The templates looked great in a screenshot. Two columns, a sidebar, a photo, icons next to every heading. Then they went into a screening system, which reads a page from top to bottom and cannot follow a layout like that, and a perfectly good candidate quietly stopped hearing back.

Then the AI. Ask any of them for a professional summary and you get the same paragraph everyone else gets, stacked with words nobody says out loud. Worse, it would rewrite work we were happy with and hand it back as a finished thing.

The download button was the worst of it. An hour of typing, a CV that finally looked right, and then a paywall when you tried to download it. Nobody builds that by accident.

The first version was for me. I could not find a CV tool I actually wanted to use, so I stopped looking and wrote one.

Most of what has been built since came from people writing in to say what was missing, which is still the fastest way to get something changed around here.

What is JobSprout?
JobSprout is an AI resume and cover letter builder with a library of role-specific resume examples, a free ATS checker and hosted CV websites. You write your content once and move it between designs without retyping anything.
Is JobSprout free to use?
Yes. A free account covers one CV and one cover letter with unlimited PDF exports, and the ATS checker and the resume summary generator need no account at all. Pro exists for people who want more than one document or a bigger AI allowance.
Do I have to pay to download my CV?
No. PDF export is free on a free account and there is no charge waiting at the download step. That particular trick is one of the three reasons this exists.
Are the resume templates ATS-friendly?
The ATS-friendly collection is built for it, and you can score any CV with the free checker before you send it. Those designs keep colour off the text and hold a reading order a parser can follow, which is the part that usually breaks in a two-column layout with a saturated sidebar.
Does the AI rewrite my CV on its own?
No. It stages the changes as a diff, and nothing reaches your document until you approve the set. Reject it and your CV is exactly as you left it.
Who writes the resume examples?
They are generated and then checked automatically. Each one has to fill its page, and the experience its summary claims has to match its own dates, or it gets drawn again. You can read any of them without an account.
How is JobSprout different from other resume builders?
Three things: the designs are built to be read by screening software first, the AI shows you a diff instead of rewriting your work, and you can export a PDF without paying. There are longer comparisons with specific tools on the blog.
What does Pro add?
Pro lifts the one-CV limit and adds the rest of the designs, the monthly AI allowance, Word export and sections like awards and volunteering. Prices sit on the pricing page, in your own currency.
