Zety is one of the most heavily marketed resume builders online. Search for "resume builder" or "how to write a resume" and you'll likely see their content. The company launched in 2016 and has been owned since January 2019 by BOLD, the career-technology group that also runs LiveCareer and My Perfect Resume.
How does Zety compare to JobSprout, a platform built around AI-assisted writing and professional typesetting?
This is a direct comparison. Every price, review score, and feature claim below was re-checked against official sources in August 2026.
Full disclosure: We built JobSprout, so we're confident in our product. Zety has strengths we'll acknowledge, and we'll be upfront about where they might be the better choice.
All figures checked August 2026. Zety prices are US prices; Zety shows local pricing by country.
| Feature | JobSprout | Zety |

Zety's pricing model needs careful reading, because the billing period is not what most people assume.
US prices; JobSprout uses regional pricing, so many countries pay less.
Checked August 2026 against Zety's pricing page and recent independent reviews (Enhancv, SoundCV, Resume Genius):
The 4-week detail matters. Because Zety bills every 4 weeks rather than monthly, a full year of rolling billing means 13 charges, about $337, not 12. Twelve months of JobSprout Pro at the monthly price is $239.88, and its annual plan is $84.
List prices from both pricing pages, checked August 2026:
Which works out cheaper depends entirely on how long you stay, so run the maths on the months you actually expect to need.
Watch out for: the trial-to-subscription conversion. The $1.95 trial becomes $25.95 every 4 weeks if you don't cancel, and this is the most common complaint in Zety's reviews. If you take the trial, set a calendar reminder.
You can build a resume for free, but the only free download format is plain text (.txt), which strips all formatting. PDF and Word exports require a paid subscription (Zety pricing, August 2026).
Zety's free plan is a preview: you can see what your resume would look like, but you can't produce a file you'd actually send to an employer without paying. A .txt file with the formatting stripped out isn't a usable job application document in 2026.
JobSprout's free plan is usable end to end: create your CV, download the PDF, apply.
Choose JobSprout's free plan if: you want to actually use your resume without paying.
Choose Zety's trial if: you intend to subscribe and want two weeks of full access for $1.95 first. Just set that reminder.
Facts you can verify yourself, with sources:
Zety focuses on pre-written content and real-time feedback:
Pre-written Content Suggestions
Content Checker
Role Play Interview Simulator
JobSprout's AI works from your complete situation rather than a phrase library.
Job Role Tailoring
AI Assistant
AI Writer (Inline Editing)
Grammar Check
Choose Zety if: you want pre-written content and a guided approach. Picking from expert-written phrases is fast when you don't know what to write, and the Role Play interview simulator has no JobSprout equivalent.
Choose JobSprout if: you want AI that writes from your actual background. One-click job tailoring rewrites your CV for each role with a transparent diff preview, and cover letters are generated from your CV and the saved job role rather than a phrase library.
Zety's AI is about speed: pick from ready-made options. JobSprout's AI is about fit: content built from your context.
Zety offers 18 resume templates across corporate, tech, and creative styles, each with colour variants, plus matching cover letter templates. Their "Content-Aware Layout" adjusts spacing as you edit. Kickresume's analysis calls the templates "clean and professional" while noting that "customization options may be somewhat limited compared to other platforms."
JobSprout offers 46 CV designs rendered with Typst, a modern typesetting system similar to LaTeX:
Typst output has the visual quality of professionally printed materials rather than web pages saved as PDFs.
Zety's templates are well-designed and the Content-Aware Layout is convenient. JobSprout has more designs (46 versus 18) and typeset output. If you want to preview everything before paying, note that Zety's previews end at a .txt download while JobSprout's free plan produces the real PDF.
Zety's templates are structured for applicant tracking systems, and the builder gives real-time feedback and keyword suggestions based on job descriptions. That feedback sits inside the paid builder flow.
Both platforms produce resumes that parse cleanly. The practical difference is access: JobSprout's checker is free and needs no account, while Zety's feedback requires being inside their paid product. We removed a third-party "ATS accuracy" percentage that appeared in an earlier version of this article because we couldn't verify its methodology.
JobSprout wins on two counts: you can download a finished cover letter PDF without paying, and the letter is generated from your CV and the saved job role rather than assembled from stock phrases.
Zety is rated 4.2 on Trustpilot from more than 12,000 reviews (checked August 2026), one of the largest review bases in the category.
What reviewers praise: easy to use, helpful content suggestions, good templates, fast results.
The recurring complaints: the trial-to-subscription conversion catching people off guard, the .txt-only free download, and upselling during the building process.
JobSprout is newer and has a smaller review base: in-app reviews average 4.9 from 113 reviews (first-party data, August 2026), and its Trustpilot profile is early days at 4.3 from 10 reviews. Users highlight the context-aware AI, the typeset output, and the fact that the free plan exports real PDFs.
Zety is the better choice if:
You're committing to annual billing. Zety's annual plan is $71.40, or $5.95 a month, its cheapest route by a wide margin (Zety pricing, August 2026).
You want interview preparation. The Role Play simulator is a real differentiator; JobSprout has no interview tool.
You prefer pre-written content. Expert-written phrases speed things up when you're staring at a blank field.
You want a huge review base behind your choice. 12,000+ Trustpilot reviews is real social proof, even at 4.2.
JobSprout is the better choice if:
You want free downloads that are actually usable. JobSprout's free plan exports a real PDF of your CV. Zety's free plan exports .txt files.
You want your cover letter to match your CV. JobSprout generates the letter from your CV and the saved job role, so the two documents tell one story.
You want context-aware AI. The AI Assistant knows your background and helps with strategy, and one-click job tailoring rewrites your CV per role with a visible diff.
You want lifetime access. JobSprout's $129 lifetime plan has no Zety equivalent.
You want typeset output. Typst rendering versus HTML/CSS exports.
You dislike trial mechanics. JobSprout has no trial to forget about; the free plan simply works until you choose to upgrade.
You want a personal website. JobSprout turns your CV into a hosted personal website at a jobsprout.me address, no code required. Zety has no equivalent.

You can build a resume for free, but you can only download it as a plain .txt file with the formatting stripped out. PDF and Word downloads require payment (Zety pricing, August 2026). For a resume you'd actually send to an employer, Zety is a paid product.
Zety bills $25.95 every 4 weeks, which is 13 charges a year and about $337, and its annual plan is $71.40. JobSprout Pro is $19.99 a month, $39 for three months, $84 a year or $129 once (both pricing pages, August 2026).
The $1.95 14-day trial auto-renews at $25.95 every 4 weeks unless you cancel. Because that's 4-weekly rather than monthly, it bills 13 times a year, about $337. This conversion is the most common complaint in Zety's Trustpilot reviews.
Zety is worth it if you commit to the annual plan ($71.40/year) and want pre-written content suggestions plus the Role Play interview simulator. It's a polished product with a large user base. The free tier isn't usable for real applications, so budget for the paid plan from the start.
On free plans, yes: JobSprout exports a real PDF where Zety exports .txt only, and its AI reads your whole CV instead of handing you a phrase library. Zety's interview simulator has no JobSprout equivalent.
Neither has a meaningful edge on parseability; both produce clean, ATS-readable files. The difference is tooling: JobSprout's ATS checker is free and needs no sign-up, while Zety's resume feedback lives inside the paid builder.
BOLD, a career-technology company that acquired Zety in January 2019 and also operates LiveCareer and My Perfect Resume. Zety itself launched in 2016. JobSprout is independent.
Choose JobSprout if you want free downloads that produce a real PDF, cover letters generated from your CV and the job you saved, context-aware AI, one-click job tailoring with a visible diff, or a lifetime price. The free plans are not comparable: JobSprout's exports finished documents, Zety's exports plain text.
Choose Zety if you're paying for a full year anyway (their annual rate is $5.95 a month), you want interview practice built in, or you prefer assembling a resume from pre-written expert phrases. Set a reminder before the trial converts.
If context-aware AI, PDFs that look professionally made, and a free plan that exports real files sound right for your job search, give JobSprout a try.
